Award Winning Photo by Tom Butcko

I renewed my interest in fiber in 2009 when I retired after 35 years with the Postal Service.  I had learned to spin as a teenager from my God Mother, Kadee.  I purchased three gorgeous alpacas from Ed and Helga Gardipe, Alpacas Novandina.  With the addition of a spinning wheel and a membership in the Valley Spinners Guild, I was off and running making beautiful alpaca yarn.

I had my fiber processed at Gretchen's Wool Mill.  Gretchen has become my mentor and a most treasured friend.  Gretchen has been working with Aimee of EcoBalanza to create a local co-op providing fiber, processing, and felt for the use in furniture.   EcoBalanza designs and manufactures furniture using LOCAL eco-friendly materials.

I purchased a rolling wet-felter with the idea of creating a felted product using alpaca fibers that are not fine enough for yarn and in hopes of being part of the local coop project.  I can  make sheets of felt up to 4'X 6'.

Unfortunately for our community, Gretchen and  Rob Wilson will be moving to Montana to be closer to their son and his family.  They will be greatly missed.   I have purchased the carding equipment from her business. I have the added services of washing and carding fiber available  NOW
